Coloring the Scrollbar

I have an unattached scrollbar. I'm a bit surprised that there are no color properties for the control. This means that in some situations, an unattached scrollbar can easily be mistaken for being just a separator on a form (albeit a kind of funky looking one). I'd really like to be able to do something to the scrollbar to make it pop out on some forms. That seems like it would be something fairly common, but a brief examination of Google suggests that it really isn't done all that much. Perhaps unattached scrollbars are just too rare, but I've found good reason to use a few of them in one particular project.

Does anybody have an example or a reference to whatever I need to do, which I assume would be custom drawing a control that might not be the easiest to custom draw?

Now that I think about it, the really awesome solution would be to use an image for the slider on the scrollbar.
